Back in Spencer’s Room
Spencer was laying on her bed, on the phone with Ashley. They had been talking for almost an hour and Spencer absolutely loved talking to her.
“Why did we stop being friends? I never really understood what happened that day.”
“I guess… I was homophobic back then. And now look at me! I kissed my best friend!”
“haha well Spence, time changes everybody and I guess it was time for you to change.”
Spencer thought about what Ashley said for a second. Time changes everybody…
“Yeah, I think I understand what you’re saying!”
Suddenly there was a knock at Spencer’s door.
“Hold on a sec Ash” Spencer said into the phone. “Yes?” she yelled covering the phone with her blanket. Spencer’s mom opened her door just a crack.
“Oh hey mom, what’s up?”
“I was just coming to check up on you. Whatcha up to?”
“Just sitting her thinking.”
“Thinking about what?”
“Just school and how different it will be.”
“Aw Spencer, everything will be fine.” Mrs. Carlin stated as she hugged Spencer. Spencer hugged her back before talking again.
“I know everything will be fine. Now that I’m learning sing and reconnecting with Ashley, I think things will be a lot better than I thought they would be.”
“I’m glad you and Ashley are talking again! I’ve missed having her around here.”
“Me too… Well I think I’m going to go to sleep now so I’ll see you tomorrow morning ok mom?”
“Of course Spence!”
Mrs. Carlin slowly got up from Spencer’s bed and headed out the door, shutting it behind her. Spencer waited until she heard her mom’s door close before she grabbed the phone from under her blanket.
“Ash, you still there?”
“Yeah I’m still here Spence. Why did you have to leave?”
“My mom decided to drop in and talk to me a bit. Sorry for making you wait!”
Ashley let out a laugh which made Spencer smile.
“It’s ok! I really didn’t mind. I mean, I’ve been waiting since 8th grade to talk to you again, plus I’ve been waiting since the day we met to kiss you.”
Spencer started to blush after hearing what Ashley had said. She’s really been waiting that long to kiss me? Spencer thought to herself.
“Well I’m sorry that I’ve been making you wait song to kiss and talk to me. But now we are back to being friends so that’s good!”
Silence came from Ashley’s end of the phone. Spencer started to wonder if Ashley had hung up on her or was trying to figure out what to say to her. Finally, Ashley spoke up.
