I unlock my car door then glance at the Carlin residence. With my keys forgotten in the lock I walk up the steps to her place. I can’t believe I’m doing this, though a part of me can’t believe it’s taken me this long to knock on her door. I’m a little restless as I wait for someone to answer the door. Look what she’s doing to me already.
“Hello?” I look up and immediately start to relax a little. “How have you been Alex?”
“Okay Mr. Carlin, and you?” He smiles and I can see it reach his eyes.
“Good good. Can I help you with something?” I bite my lip and shove my hands into my pockets.
“Yes um can I speak to Spencer?” He opens his mouth to reply before the last voice I’d ever want to hear speaks up.
“No you may not.” Those cold eyes, dim less compared to her daughter’s.
“Honey it should be okay.” At least I have someone on my side.
“Arthur let me have a moment with Alex…it is Alex right?” I clench my jaw and try to control my anger.
“Yes ma’am.” Arthur looks at me then at his wife, not missing the tension in the air.
“Please Arthur go inside.” One look into her eyes before he relents. His role in this household is clear, he’s a pushover. Which is sad, he’s such a nice guy. You don’t meet too many of them lately, at least not in my line of work. I wonder how he’ll take the news of his wife being a power hungry psychopath. “I thought I told you to stay away from her.”
“I did and now I’m here.” I smirk “There’s something about your daughter that captivates me, other than the fact that she’s sexy as hell.” Paula frowns deeply before taking a step forward and shutting the door.
“Listen you little dyke, don’t come anywhere near my daughter.” She spits out spitefully. “Spencer is not like you anyway; she’s going out with a handsome young man now.” I clench my fists tightly. I can feel my body tingle before it starts to shake slightly. My heart races as my energy level rises.
“I don’t believe you…” I whisper before taking shallow breaths. I have to get in control before…
“Really, we’re having a family dinner tonight. He’ll be there so why don’t you and your sister join us. Doesn’t that sound entertaining?” I let her snide remark settle in my mind. Do I really want to torture myself like that? Everything about this feels wrong, but I need to know. I have to find out the truth, there has to be a reason why Spencer won’t even see me. “Well?” Paula crosses her arms impatiently. I can already tell this woman loves manipulating people.
