“Pick up the pace Davies!”
Ugh, I hate athletics so much. It’s seriously the worst thing in the world. I mean, it’s not that bad that we have to run miles all the time and run bleachers and run hill and all that other shit, but what sucks is always coming in last. I am the slowest runner in all of athletics. I get yelled at by my coaches a lot, well, they gave up yelling at me in 7th grade, cause they know I’m giving them all I have. So now coming back into 8th grade, they were happy to see me and so were the other girls. Cause the slower I take, the most time they get to breathe. Lucky them.
“Come on Ashley you got this.”
That’s what everyone says as they lap me. It used to be encouraging, but now I just get annoyed. That’s like our motto, ‘You got this’ I think I’m the one that people tell it to the most though.
“Hey Ash.” Says my bestfriend Lilly.
“Hey Lil.” I say out of breath.
“What lap are you on?”
“Um, 4? What about you?”
“Lap 6, the last one.”
“So why don’t you just run and finish?”
“Cause I want to save my energy for the final straight away.”
“Right…”
“Well, gotta go Ash, see you in 2 more laps!”
“Ha-ha.”
She smiles and sprints off down to the finish. I love Lilly, but sometimes she can really piss me off. Like, we’re ‘married’ (Not really, but we just say we are) and she can really make me jealous sometimes, but I don’t know why I get jealous when she talks to other people other than me. It’s weird, but oh well. Anyways and she’ll also just do stupid things like try weed and cut herself and it just scares the shit out of me cause she’s only 13! I worry about her all the time.
“Come on, 2 more lap Davies.” Says my coach.
“Oh..kay.” I. Hate. Running.
“Come on Ashley, you got this! Almost there!” Everyone cheered me on.
That’s how everyone learned my name, cause I was always last, it’s kind of funny to me hah. I could hear Lilly’s voice out of the crowded and it made me smile and push myself even harder. Cause once I’m done, then I get to hang out with her the rest of the period.
The October weather is the best to run in, there’s always a breeze. Makes it not too bad to run. I got one curve and one straight left to run. I was looking down while I was running, I always do that, and then all of a sudden I heard a voice come out of nowhere.
“Come on Ashley, you got this.”
I look up and it’s a very pretty blonde girl with stunning blue eyes.
