” “I don’t want to talk about that right now, Ashley.” She says easing her hand out of mine and resting it on her own lap.
“Okay.” We make our way to her place in complete silence. Every now and then I will look over at Spencer just to see the back of her head.
“I guess I can’t come in?” I say once I’m parked in front of her house.
“I had fun tonight.” She says ignoring my question. I sigh and run my fingers through my hair.
“Yeah…me too.” Spencer pushes open her door. “Hey…” I reach out and touch her arm. “...talk to me.”
“About?”
“I don’t know…whatevers bothering you.”
“Nothing is bothering me.”
“Oh please…” I through my hands up, “Any time the word sex or anything associated with it comes up, you run for the fucking hills.” I say in frustration.
“I don’t run anywhere.” Is her defense.
“On no? What about that time I asked you about how many people you kissed? Kissed!,” I recall. “You freaked out and left my house.”
“I don’t want to argue with you.” She steps out of the truck.
“I don’t want to argue with you.” I repeat her words. “I want to understand.” I say sincerely.
We stare at each other for a minute before she steps out and closes the door. Spencer then walks around to my side of the truck. I roll down my window.
“Will you call me tomorrow?” I ask through the tension.
“Do you want me to?” I just roll my eyes and lean my head toward her for a kiss.
“Call me.” I say when we break apart.
