That they didn't have to worry each day that someone was going to die. That Ashley could have a family again and not be so lonely. That they could finally admit their feelings for one another, and love each other as they always longed to.
They sat in silence in the dark parking lot, the windows of the car slightly frosted over because of the cool night. Both girls were still dressed in very little, but because of their grief and the alcohol, they didn't seem to feel it. "We need to report everything." Spencer finally said, her arm perched against the passenger side window as she gazed out of it, her palm holding her head up.
"I'm so sick of this." Ashley answered as she took a hearty swallow of the alcohol. "Hmm." Spencer agreed and accepted the bottle.
"Let's get out of here. Let's go to Florida or the Bahamas, some place warm." Spencer turned to look at her and smiled.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Fuck school and work, and fuck the Killer. Let's just go somewhere that doesn't have a serial murderer. Somewhere they don't kill their students at the very least." Spencer chuckled at the sarcasm.
"Yeah, okay. Let's do that." The blonde easily agreed. They were silent for a moment. "Why didn't you tell me about the picture, Ash?" Spencer asked softly. She couldn't believe that the brunette kept it a secret. It's not like they didn't spend all day together. There were many chances for her ex best friend to confide in her.
At the question, Ashley blew out a long sigh, keeping her eyes forward. "I don't know." She whispered. Spencer shifted towards her a little and put a comforting hand on her arm.
"Ash," Spencer breathed out, trying to prompt her. "Why not?" She turned off the music and slowly started running her hand up and down the brunette's tan arm, waiting to hear a response. Ashley's eyes momentarily closed at the sensation as goose bumps erupted on her arm. She turned a little toward the blonde and locked eyes with her.
"I was scared." Spencer nodded, hoping she'd continue. "If I told anyone...it'd make it real. And..."
"And what?" The blonde questioned softly, still rubbing Ashley's arm. The brunette took another sip of the whiskey and tried to find her words as she stared into Spencer's beautiful blue eyes.
"I just want to forget sometimes, you know. Just for a second. I wanna forget that all this horrible shit keeps happening.
