Author's Note:HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, AMIE!

The Facts: Spencer Carlin, a popular cheerleader at King High, has just been recently dumped by her boy friend Garrett, but she doesn\'t care because she is secretly in love with her ex best friend Ashley Davies. Spencer lives with her father, brother Glen, and aunt Marie. Her mother died in a car accident four years ago. Spencer is confused about her feelings for her ex best friend because despite being in love with her, knows that her aunt and her dead mother would hate Spencer being gay.

Ashley Davies has also suffered a loss, her father. Her mother is never around and Ashley works at Paula\'s Place, a diner owned by the Carlins. Ashley is also in love with Spencer, although, after the death of her father, a mere three days after the death of Paula, Spencer broke all ties with Ashley, despite their silent feelings for one another.

The two girls and their family and friends live in a small town in Ohio that has recently been attacked with murder.

The confirmed death toll stands at nine- Cassidy Adams, a loner goth, Patrick Anderson, a secretly gay athlete and a one time fling of Spencer\'s who also happens to be the Sheriff\'s son and was murdered in his father\'s supposed secure office, Benamin \"Boz\" Bossley, a known drug dealer, Linda Battle a waitress at Paula\'s Place and a single mom, Rhonda Begley (not much known about her), J.P a cook at the diner, Jake Kessler and Ethan Marks, two King jocks and assholes, and Sean Miller who never listened to the rules. Besides J.P. the eight other victims all attended King High.

When we last left off, the Killer, who sports a grey hoodie and kills with a sword, just got finised killing four people at the town hayride/corn maze. Among the victims was Jonica Pace. The other victims are unknown and none have been discovered. The Killer is working with an unknown person. Ashley was staying at the Carlins after someone gave her car a flat tire and broke into her house leaving a pumpkin that had maggots and raw meat inside it, along with a cryptic message on her bathroom mirror in blood, with maggots in the sink, a flier to the Halloween dance Spencer is in charge of, and the cap to her tire.

Spencer and Ashley feel that they know the reason behind the killings, kids at King who aren\'t going to the Halloween dance and/or outcasts/bad. They are using Spencer\'s dance list to narrow down the Killer\'s next targets and are following Carmen around on a hunch she\'s next. Because of their investigation, they kissed to hide their idenity. But Spencer is later told by her aunt that she mustn\'t hang out with Ashley anymore because the brunette is gay, a conversation Ashley overheard. I think that\'s it...

The small town is living in darkness after the Killer blew the power grid of the town. The police have no leads and can\'t seem to find a pattern to the Killer\'s plot; to kill anyone who is\'t attending the King High school dance, anyone who doesn\'t fit the mold of the perfect teenager.

Ashley Davies only had a restless forty-five minutes of sleep before she finally slipped out of her uncomfortable cot and quickly got dressed. Instinctually she looked over at the clock beside Spencer's bed and rolled her eyes when she realized, of course, the power was still out.

While trying to find sleep, the brunette thought of her next move. She couldn't stay with the Carlins any longer; it hurt too much.

When Paula Carlin died, Ashley mourned for her as though she lost her own mother. And part of her still thought of the older blonde as a mother. After hearing Marie's comments, however, a very big fraction of Ashley died. Her father was dead, her mother had abandoned her. And now she finds out that Paula never really liked her, and worse, Arthur went along with Marie's plea that Spencer stay away from her. Arthur Carlin: the only person Ashley really thought was there for her besides Aiden.

With a deep sigh and one last look at the sleeping blonde, Ashley quietly opened the bedroom door and exited the house as swiftly as possible.

It was still dark outside, just after five in the morning, and with great effort, Ashley started her trek. She would go to the ATM at the all-night Quick-Mart. She would take what little money she had and be outside the garage where her car was held prisoner as soon as they opened. She would get a new tire which would give her freedom.

As much as she hated the idea, she would go back to her isolated existence at her empty house and pray that no one came looking for her. She would not, under any circumstances, think of the kiss. She would not, under any circumstances, think of the blonde. She couldn't. Because at this point in time, she had exactly three pieces of her heart intact, and if another piece were to break off, she didn't know if she could stand it.

Aiden had always looked out for her, he'd always been there. And although she thought the green-eyed boy was complete moron (on the best of days), and she wasn't pleased with him for giving in to Sasha, he was like a brother to Ashley, and she couldn't lose someone else. He was the only constant in her life.

Her father was dead and gone, but at least he had loved her. And Ashley held on to that. Some days it felt like it was the only thing she did have. For a moment there, last night, when she held Spencer in her arms while they kissed, a tiny seed of hope seeped in and the brunette allowed herself to believe that someone else could love her.

But she couldn't let herself think those things. She had barely two hundred dollars in the bank. Any day now her mother should be sending her a couple hundred more; but that would be for food, gas, car insurance, and now a new cell phone. There were other little things Christine's money would have to go to so she'd have to be careful.

Her diner job only got her by. The occasion shopping trip if she were careful. Maybe a movie or a trip to the club. And unbeknownst to Ashley, Arthur Carlin actually paid her well over what he was supposed to. But that went quickly, and so did her tip money.

Ashley Davies was quite alone. Even her best friend didn't know the extent of her loneliness. Because, sadly, the brunette just thought that it wouldn't make a difference. That who she was wasn't good enough.

With her hands deep in the pockets of her jeans, Ashley made the quiet walk towards the Quick-Mart, pulling her thin jacket a little closer to her as she did. She didn't know she was being followed. She didn't know that at that exact moment down the street, Spencer Carlin was waking up in the bed next to the cot the brunette just abandoned, making the blonde feel quite abandoned herself. She didn't know that things were about to turn worse for the town. She couldn't know that her life was about to be flipped upside-down.

She just tried not to think of a girl. And a kiss that had made her heart feel momentarily whole.

~~~~~~~~~~
Spencer Carlin flopped back onto her bed with the realization that Ashley had left. She had searched the whole house and came up empty. She had quietly called the brunette's name from the front doorway and then into the backyard. And she tried several times to phone her ex best friend before she realized that Ashley had lost her phone the night before.
