“Neither of you thought about going out to eat or something?”

“Why eat out, when you can eat in for free?” She laughs and jumps up when the front door opens.

“What are you guys up to?” Spencer closes the front door behind her.

“Ash was trying crying about how you’re giving her shit.” Brooke shrugs. “She would like you to tell her what she did.”

“Seriously Ash?” Spencer moves to stand in front of me.

“Yeah,” I stand up. “In so many words.” I glare at my sister.

“Just trying to help you out, big sis.” She grins and says goodnight.

“You ready?” I ask Spencer once the house door shuts behind Brooke.

“Sure.” She says quietly and walks passed me.

So my plan to go home and talk to my wife about what’s bothering her went to shit when I fell asleep on the way home. Spencer was driving and I was super tired. I ended up asleep with my head against the window. When we got in the house, I sat on the couch, and before I realized it I was asleep again.

Now it’s like ten in the morning and I find myself alone in our bed. I’m sure me falling asleep pissed her off more.

“No, baby mama’s still sleep.” I find Spencer sitting at the kitchen table, with the phone pressed against her face. “Mommy misses you.” She hasn’t noticed me in the doorway yet. I’m surprised she hasn’t gone to get the kids yet. We rarely let the girls stay over other people’s house. If we do its no more than a night.

“Morning.” I walk into the room.

“Morning.” She smiles at me. “Here, Paris wants to talk to her mama.” I walk over and take the phone. I spend the next ten minutes listening to my four year old explain how her grandpa fixed her and her sister breakfast and how they’re all going to the park later.

When I get off the phone, I go looking for Spencer.

“Spencer!” I walk into our bedroom.

“Why are you so loud?” She throws one of Sydney’s shoes at me.

“What?!” I laugh at the look of annoyance on Spencer’s face.

“Shut up.”

“I love you!” I yell while walking over to her. Spencer’s bending down, picking up a pile of toys Sydney dragged into our room, before we left for Spencer’s parents house.
