” Sydney reaches out for me to take her from Spencer.“Hey baby.” I grin and grab the giggling little girl. “I missed you.” I tickle her sides as I start walking back into the house with her.
“Ashley.” I hear Spencer voice behind me. “Grab some bags.” She gestures to the grocery bags pilled in the front seat of her car.
“I will in a minute. Just let me give her to Taylor and I’ll come back out and help you.” I tell her, switching Sydney to my other hip.
“Taylor’s here?” She says giving Paris a pack of cookies to carry into the house. “Mama and I’ll get the rest. Stay in the house, baby.” She tells her.
“I help!” Paris jumps up and down.
“Not this time Paris. These bags are too heavy.” She pats the pouting child on the back. “Aunt Tay is in the house. Go play with her.” Paris gets excited and runs up the sidewalk and into the house.
“The girl does not believe in walking.” I laugh and follow her into the house. I instruct Taylor to watch the kids while I help my wife with the groceries.
“Damn Spence. Could you have parked further away?” I joke while walking back down the driveway.
“I didn’t tell your friend to park in my spot.” She says annoyed as she walks pass me.
“You just stay in the house. I’ll get the stuff from the car.”
These Is weird and new to me. Spencer has been getting annoyed at everything I do. This is the first time we ever fought this much. I guess they’re not really fights, but more like a bunch of conversations with attitude, most of the attitude coming from Spencer.
After about four trips to the car, I have everything in the kitchen. Spencer and I silently put the groceries away.
“Okay,” I put my final can of corn in the cabinet, turn around and lift myself up onto the counter. “What’s wrong?”
“How long is Taylor staying over?” She asks leaning against the kitchen sink.
“Why?”
“I want to spend some time along with you and the kids before we go over to my parents for dinner.”
“Your parents?” I frown. Spencer nods. “But you just bought groceries.
