E., Ashley is magically in attendance. Sure, she'll miss every morning class, but P.E. is the one that she must attend! Neither she nor Gage even look at one another, but I feel some sense of relief because Ashley isn't talking to McSlutty.
Spencer: "You didn't have to do that." I tell Gage as I lean up against the soccer post.
Gage: "I know." She tells me before she flicks her cigarette. "Funny that Ashley suddenly finds P.E an important class not to miss. Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that you and I share the class, could it?" She asks with a smirk. Spencer: "How's Jess doing?" I ask her as I watch Ashley smile slightly at whatever Renee just said to her before her eyes dart to where Gage and I stand. I'm pleased to see she doesn't look at all happy that I'm talking with her.
Gage: "Fine, actually. She doesn't really care. She mentioned something about the greater good and not caring what the school thinks." I see a faint smile tug at the corners of Gage's mouth and I chuckle.
Spencer: "And then you had sex." I say with a smile of my own.
Gage: "And then we had sex."
Spencer: "But come on, Gwen, how far are you going to take this?" I ask as I turn to look at her. "You're risking your friendship..."
Gage: "No." She says as she turns to me. "That isn't my Ashley." She says as she points over to where Ashley is still pretending to be consumed in her conversation with Renee, even though she keeps looking over at us. "That person over there is a scared little girl who would rather throw away something amazing with the person they love because they're too much of a pussy. I don't care what her reasoning is, she can't even admit to her friends about what's going on! She'd rather play the tragic hero than fight for what she wants, so no, Spencer, I'm not going to 'come on.'"
Spencer: "How is she any different than the Ashley you knew before me?!" I ask skeptically. Gage moves forward a little until are narrowed eyes are right in front of me. Liker seriously, rigggght in front of me. So close that if I stuck my tongue out it would hit Gage's lip.
Gage: "You, Spence. You made her different. At least before she didn't know what she was missing. But you made her fall, and hard. She's selfless and caring, she listens now and is around all the time. You made her different. And call me selfish or whatever, but I don't want to lose my best friend." I take in her words as I stare in her deep blue eyes.
Spencer: "We're standing extremely close, Gwen." I whisper to her, feeling a little awkward.
