Months had flown past and Spencer and Ashley had grown virtually as one. They spent every moment with one another; going over each other’s houses, doing home work, going to the mall, even walking in the halls before class. Though neither of them perused the other; it was evident to everyone in school that they had feelings for one another so therefore no one intervened. But what was holding them back? Fear? Potential heartbreak? No one knew and neither did they; they were just waiting for the other to make the first move; but how long would that take?

Ashley had invited Spencer over for the weekend; she had opened her pool for the summer so she thought they would have a nice time.

Swimming toward the deep end of the pool Ashley looked back at Spencer who stood awkward in the shallow end.

“Come on Spence! Swim!” Ashley encouraged her blonde friend to follow.

“I can’t,” Her words were whispered and Ashley could not hear them. The brunette swam back to her friend and pouted.

“Why aren’t you swimming?” She stroked the girls arm comfortingly.

“I can’t swim,” Spencer answered while looking at the water.

“Aw, c’mon it’s simple,” Ashley demonstrated by swimming around Spencer a few times, which made the blonde blush with embarrassment.

“I can’t,” she mumbled, Ashley smiled and held out her hand for the blonde leading her toward a deeper section of the pool.

“It’s ok, I got you,” She reassured her friend.

As the day progressed Ashley had tried yet did not succeed fully at making her blonde companion water friendly. All Ashley was able to teach Spencer was to tread water; which she did very well seeing as it was the only way she could stay alive.

“See you’re not doing so bad,” Ashley shrugged swimming circles around the blonde.

“Yes I am it’s not like I can actually swim! All I can do is stay in one place,” Spencer sighed.

“You’ll learn,” Ashley whispered swimming behind her blonde friend.

“It’s hard though,” Mumbled Spencer, the brunette hugged her from behind resting her head on the blonde’s shoulder.

“No it’s not,” Ashley hummed shaking her head but Spencer hardly noticed all she paid attention to was the closeness of Ashley’s body to her own.

Spencer turned around to face the brunette it was her chance and she seized it. She leaned in slowly, waiting for Ashley to meet her in the middle. Meanwhile the brunette froze and stared wide-eyed at the blonde; was this real? She had thought to herself. But she did not think for long and soon she met the blonde in the middle and they had shared their kiss.

“I… um… sorry,” Spencer tried to push away but Ashley didn’t let her go.

“Why are you sorry?” The brunette smiled and pecked the blonde on the cheek. Spencer blushed ducking her head from Ashley’s view.

“I-I don’t k-know, I though m-maybe you didn’t want t-to kiss me,” She stumbled over her words and struggled nervously to get out of Ashley’s grasp.

“If I said I didn’t want to it would be a lie. I have wanted to kiss you from the moment you walked into class Spencer,” The blonde blushed and smiled shyly.

“Why haven’t you then?” She mumbled and finally hugged the brunette back resting her head on the brunette’s shoulder.

“I was merely looking for the right timing; I never thought you would be the one to make the move first.

Spencer lifted her head mocking hurt, “I so can make the first move!” Ashley smiled and nodded.

“I know now,” She went to kiss Spencer’s cheek but the blonde had other plans turning her head so she caught her lips instead.

It was Ashley’s turn to blush now, “See, I made the move once again,” Spencer purred while Ashley chuckled.

“Indeed you did Spency,” The girls shared another quick kiss.

As time went on the girl swam at least one did while the other clung to the swimmer’s back. Soon enough both were tired and decided to go inside and watch a movie.
